Champion Life Centre
Champion Life Centre is a congregation of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada. Its statement of beliefs holds that the Bible is the inspired and only infallible Word of God, that one God exists eternally in three persons, and that salvation from sin is available only through repentance and faith in Christ. It also affirms divine healing through prayer, the baptism of the Holy Spirit 'according to Acts 2:4', and the rapture of the Church at Christ's coming.
Champion Life Centre began in 1992, when Pastors Jerry and Elvie Berenguer started a church in the basement of their Brampton home. It has since established other locations and describes itself as one church with multiple locations, from Guelph, London and Toronto to Calgary, the Philippines, Trinidad and Ghana.
The Brampton congregation meets at Unit 1, 55 Hedgedale Road, and its pastors are Paul and Rachel Berenguer. Two celebration services are held on Sunday mornings, at 9:30 and 11:45, and the earlier one is broadcast live online. The PAOC’s Western Ontario District directory lists it as a Filipino congregation.
What to expect
A celebration service lasts about an hour and a half: worship with a live band, a message from the Bible, then announcements, with the lights dimmed during the singing. The church says people sing, lift their hands, clap and respond aloud during the service, and that most dress casually. The main entrance is at the rear of the building and parking is around it; doors open half an hour before each service, and coffee and tea are served in the fellowship hall. Champion Kids classes are held on site, with a nursery for infants and nursing mothers, and parents register and check children in when they arrive.
