St. Patrick's Catholic Church

St. Patrick's, Wildfield, is a Roman Catholic parish of the Archdiocese of Toronto that describes itself as the second-oldest parish in what is now the archdiocese. Catholics confess the Nicene Creed, receive the seven sacraments, and hold that the bread and wine of the Mass become the body and blood of Christ. Named for St. Patrick, it celebrates Sunday Mass in English and Italian, and once a month in Punjabi and Urdu.

St. Patrick’s stands on the crest of a hill where The Gore Road meets Mayfield Road, at Wildfield in the north-east of the city. The present red-brick church, with a square bell tower under a steep pyramidal roof, was built in 1894 to designs by the Toronto firm of Post and Holmes, on the site of a frame church of the 1830s. The City of Brampton designated the church and its cemetery under the Ontario Heritage Act in 2010.

The parish calls itself the second-oldest in what is now the Archdiocese of Toronto, and the city’s heritage designation says the same. The designation records that St. Patrick’s was first known as the Gore Mission, that its priests served mission churches over a wide area for decades, and that it is still known as the “Mother Church” of the Catholic parishes of Peel Region. Father Francis McSpiritt, parish priest from 1887 to 1895, whom local legend remembers as a healer, oversaw the building of the present church. Ground was broken for a new church on Pentecost Sunday, 24 May 2026, and the parish says the present building will become its chapel once the new church is in use.

Weekend Masses are on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday at 8:30 and 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. in English, with a Mass in Italian at 11:30 a.m. and, on the third Sunday of the month, a Mass in Punjabi and Urdu at 3:00 p.m. Weekday Mass is at 8:30 a.m. from Monday to Friday and 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, with evening Masses at 7:00 p.m. from Tuesday to Thursday and on the first Friday of the month.
