Church of the Holy Family
The Church of the Holy Family, an Anglican parish in Heart Lake, calls itself a multicultural family of Christian believers 'from all over the world'. Its principal service is the Eucharist, in which, the parish says, God is encountered 'through Scripture and sacrament', and all who are baptized may receive Holy Communion.
The Church of the Holy Family is an Anglican parish in Heart Lake, on the west side of Kennedy Road North just south of Sandalwood Parkway. It belongs to the North Peel deanery of the Diocese of Toronto, and it takes its name from Jesus, Mary and Joseph, whom the parish describes as ‘wholly open to the presence and work of God in their lives’.
One service is held each Sunday, a Eucharist at ten in the morning, in the church and on Zoom. The parish choir sings music ranging, in the parish’s words, from traditional hymns to African-American spirituals to world music, and special services are announced through the church year, from Advent lessons and carols to Holy Week.
What to expect
A welcome team greets newcomers and shows them to a seat, and the service is displayed on screen with the prayers and music; the parish says to wear whatever is comfortable. The Eucharist lasts about an hour and a half. Small children may stay in the service or go to the Upper Room beside the worship space, where the service can still be heard, and children aged 5 to 9 have a program downstairs before returning for Holy Communion. Those not yet baptized may come forward with arms crossed for a blessing, and refreshments follow in the Main Hall downstairs.
