Emmanuel United Church

Emmanuel United Church affirms one God in three Persons and the 66 books of the Protestant Bible as authoritative in revealing God's actions. It believes the Spirit draws people toward a community where everyone can enjoy full membership 'regardless of race, sexual orientation, gender identity, socio-economic class, mental or physical ability', and it celebrates two sacraments: baptism, for people of any age, and communion, open to all who profess faith in Jesus Christ.

Emmanuel United Church is on Balmoral Drive in Bramalea. The congregation began gathering in Bramalea in 1961 under the Reverend Elinor Leard, whom it names as one of the first women to lead a pastoral charge in the United Church of Canada, and it marked its 65th anniversary with an Anniversary Sunday on 7 June 2026.

Worship is at eleven on Sunday morning, with the doors open from half past ten, and lasts about an hour. The congregation describes itself as ‘young-at-heart’ and ‘seeking renewal’, and its outreach partners include Regeneration Brampton.

What to expect

The congregation describes its worship as relaxed: some people wear suits, but most come casually dressed. The hour-long service opens with prayer, hymns and the lighting of the Christ Candle, with the choir leading the singing, and includes a message for the young-at-heart and an all-ages message. Communion is served with wafers and grape juice. The minister greets everyone at the door afterwards, and most people then gather in the Fellowship Hall for coffee.
