Augsburg Evangelical Lutheran Church

Augsburg describes itself as an inclusive Christian community 'whose people proclaim the word and celebrate the sacraments', centred on Jesus Christ. Its affirmation of welcome names people of every race, age, faith background, sexual orientation and gender identity, and all worshippers, children included, are welcome to receive the Lord's Supper. It belongs to the Eastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada.

Augsburg Evangelical Lutheran Church is on Mill Street South and belongs to the GTA West Ministry Area of the Eastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada. The parish was organized in 1960, and the church says its first members were primarily German immigrants; the Doors Open Ontario listing calls it the first Lutheran church in Brampton. By the church’s own account, the Mill Street South property was bought the following year, a building went up in 1964, a new sanctuary was completed in 1988, and more offices and meeting rooms were added in 1999.

The congregation worships on Sundays at half past ten, or at ten in summer. It describes its membership today as drawn from many ethnic groups and religious histories, and it makes its building available to a range of community groups.

What to expect

All worshippers, children included, are welcome at the Lord's Supper. The all-ages choir sings in the service about once a month from October to May, and coffee fellowship follows at half past eleven on Sundays when volunteers are available.
