## What they believe
St. Mary's is a Roman Catholic parish of the Archdiocese of Toronto in downtown Brampton. Catholics confess the Nicene Creed, receive the seven sacraments, and hold that the bread and wine of the Mass become the body and blood of Christ. The parish is named in honour of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, and one of its Sunday Masses is celebrated in Spanish.

## About this congregation
St. Mary's stands on Main Street South in downtown Brampton, a few minutes' walk south of the Four Corners. The present church was built in 1963 and 1964 under Father C. W. Sullivan, pastor from 1946 to 1972, for a congregation that had grown past a thousand families. Its first Mass was celebrated in October 1964, and Cardinal James McGuigan dedicated it on 13 December 1964.

The parish history records that the first Catholic church in the village of Brampton was Guardian Angels, built on Centre Street South in 1864 and 1865 and served by priests from St. Patrick's at Wildfield and later from Orangeville. It was destroyed by fire in July 1878, and the congregation moved into a former Presbyterian church on John Street. A new brick church named St. Mary's, in honour of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, was opened and blessed by Archbishop Fergus McEvay on 20 February 1910. It remained a mission, served from Orangeville and from 1915 from Weston, until 1918, when Father Lugent Biglin was appointed resident pastor and St. Mary's became a parish.

The Saturday vigil Mass is at 5:00 p.m., and Sunday Masses are at 8:00, 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in English, with a Mass in Spanish at 2:00 p.m. Weekday Mass is at 9:00 a.m. from Monday to Saturday, with a second Mass on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
